1966 Impala runs 9s at the track

I love my big 72 Impala and I love seeing big heavy Impalas at the track. This 1966 Impala is a total monster and we love it. Coming in at 4,600 pounds and 1,000 Horsepower est maybe more who knows we do not expect him to reveal all his secrets.

Now…

When I watched this video I was amazed that this huge land yacht can run under 10 seconds and do it in a straight line. And not only in a straight line but also do it under amazing control. He even pops the wheels on a few runs and it still continues in a straight line.

And when I say under 10 seconds he is actually running consistent 9.30s and under, his goals was to hit the 8s and I do not want to be a spoiler but in his second to last run he get that boulevard barge into the 8s I was actually cheering for the guy. The ’65 ’66 Impalas we have had in our family so even as a young 5 year old I always wanted one.

This car is put together right from the motor to the drive train, and based on the video this car lasted a week of racing run after run with no major malfunctions. However on his last run against the Corvette it looked like something did happen. But still this car was at Street Car Takeover – St.Louis as well as Drag Week so this car and the owner gets major credit for putting together one durable amazing car.

According to the Guys at 1320 Video he has owned the car since the 1990s and hopefully he keeps it for many many more years.

The 1966 Impala…

Was the second year of an all new redesigned Impala, and it received a different front and rear treatment from the previous year. Not to mention some Interior differences as well. The drive trains were similar but the 409 ended in mid ’65 and a 396 cubic inch plant took its place. You also got two versions of the 427 The RPO L36 was rated at 385 hp , the L72 at 425 hp ). The L72 was only available with a manual transmission.

And I do believe it was a tad heavier than the 1965 as well. I have to say these are really beautiful machines. And I love the fact that this car hauls ass !!!
