1972 350 Chevy All Original
1972 Chevy Impala 350 2 Barrel 56,000 Orig Miles..
Well the throttle has been sticking since day one not to bad all you have to do is hit the pedal and it goes right back no big deal.. but on start ups it kinda revs the motor a bit too high and at times when I have to panic stop and it’s high just puts a little too much on the car so. I figured I get a little White Lithium Grease and go over all the usual spots..
Before the air cleaner was removed you will see the motor or engine in all her glory.. Ok shes a bit dusty but The alternator is factory, the belts were changed but I will order some new ones for durability reasons. I will be driving her around the country so I gotta make sure she is ok.. The Air Condition does work and turn on but one of the hoses freezes up so we gotta look into that at a later date..
The fuel pump is factory as well as the hoses, I will order new hoses and keep them in the trunk just in case. I am really unsure of the history of the car I am pretty sure that I am the 3rd owner. The second owner just bought the car to flip it and make money. He took a hit I assure you this car was worth way more than what I paid for it.. But he is a good dude and true to his word so I will help him in the future .. He could have raised the price at any time but he didn’t a real stand up guy.
Now with this picture you will see the Orig Factory Air Conditioning. The Compress still works and blows cold. But as I mentioned on the hoses freezes up so we gotta work on that.. Now if you notice the idle stop solenoid for the A/C is unplugged. I had to unplug it. The switch was stuck open when the A/C was not on raising the idle so until I figure that out..
Now with That Huge Air Cleaner off you can see how simple it really is. Gas Spark and Air is all what you really need . No sensors no other gadgets just plain old mechanics. The choke is extremely simple so I’ve put a lil white lithium grease on the ends that connect to the carb. And the vacuum that pulls the choke linkage back. I have been driving this car a year now and still is very clean under the hood. But then again I really do not drive her much for now..
Ok now in this picture you will see the linkage I put some grease on all moveable parts. If it moves it gets the White Grease only because it has been sitting for so long and never been touched at all. Again you will notice the A/C Idle Solenoid not connected. The problem might not even be that but will stay disconnected until I find out why it keeps open to raise the idle with the A/C off..
You will also note how clean the Carburetor really is. No leaks no nothing now I will attempt to change the gas filter I can’t remember if that was done by the other guy he said something but I tuned him out I was so excited to get the car. It does look like the thermostat was changed at one time if you notice the blue silicone goo underneath the thermostat housing.. But again when you buy something this old I try to buy up and keep what I would need in a hurry to fix it and keep her running..
Well there you have it a period correct 1972 Chevy Impala engine bay with the base 350 2 Barrel . I really wish they made these things with a 4 speed stick like they did with the old ones. Oh I would enjoy this thing even more if it was humanly possible. After all these years of wanting one and drooling over every other one I ever saw. I was lucky enough to find this one and do the things I get to do with it.
Never give up on your hopes and dreams. Yes it will take time and seem impossible but in the end you never know. Its closer than you think !.
