New for 1970 the Dodge Challenger was one nice looking car sharing the same options and frame as the Plymouth Cuda and Barracuda. Even the engine options were the same right up to the legendary 426 Hemi. In 1970 Dodge sold nearly 77,000 units that year. The most sought-after V8 engines are the rarest. Like the 440 Six Pack But again the 426 HEMI is the rarest, there were only 356 Elephant Pavement Pounders built. This includes 287 hardtops, 60 cars with the Special Edition package, and only nine convertibles.
Dodge sold only 3,884 convertibles in 1970, 963 were ordered in R/T trim. And nine were fitted with the 426 HEMI. In case if you were wondering only 99 440 six packs were assembled well they say 99, the base four-barrel 440s were slapped into 163 convertibles. Last but not least around 692 individuals opted for the standard R/T 383-cubic-inch motor. This orange drop-top just so happens one of those cars.
You see I am a 4-speed guy so I was sad to see the standard 3-speed Tourqueflight, don’t get me wrong the Tourqueflight is a great transmission. But I prefer to bang gears with the top up or down
Founder of the JRX Foundation and host of JRX Reviews. I grew up on big 70s cars my cousin more like an older brother to me had almost every Impala or Caprice from 1965 to 1989. Ever since I could remember getting Tony’s Hot Dogs on Park ave in Newark NJ in his 65 Impala SS. Now I have my big Impala to drive around in and I love every min of it.
