65 GTO 389 Vs 67 Impala SS Drag Race

1967 Impala SS vs 65 GTO Drag Race, now in the original video from Road Test T.V. they say the Impala is an SS 427 and they also say its 335 horsepower. But this Impala is lacking the special SS 427 Hood and Badges. I personally believe that this a 396 car because the 396 was rated at 325 horse and the SS 427 is 385 Horse.

Now according to the rules, he can place a 427 in there because they came from the factory with one. So maybe I am guessing this is a 396 car with the spec 427 in it. Again I only go by with what I see, I was not there to see this in person. But I do know of a ’69 Corvette with a 454 block with 427 L-88 heads and intake running the F.A.S.T series ( Factory Appearing Stock Tire) So again who knows

Before we go any further I would like to thank Road Test T.V. on YouTube for shooting the video and putting it out there. So if you want to show them some love there are some links below.

The ’65 GTO is powered by a 389 Cubic Inch V8 which was rated at 335 Horsepower and 431 lb-ft of torque and its also packing a 4 Speed. I have always loved the ’68 to ’72 GTOs I do like the ’65 to ’67s but not so much as to go and buy one. Now you could also get the Tri-Power in ’65 with three 2 bbl carbs and 360 Horse but sadly the car in the video I believe is the standard version.

The ’67 Impala as I mentioned above is supposed to be a SS 427 car, I am thinking its a 396 car but again who knows. But this car also has a 4 Speed which I always loved about the ’65 to ’69 Impalas you can get them with manual gearboxes. Now in 1970 you could get a 3 Speed manual but only on the column, there was no floor shift option like the previous years.
